The food and drink industry is under increasing pressure to meet environmental targets while maintaining the highest standards of hygiene across operations.
For many manufacturers, sustainability is no longer just a long-term goal. It is becoming a practical consideration in daily operations, including how production areas are cleaned.
Washdown processes are essential for food safety, but the resources required to carry them out are also being closely reviewed. As a result, many manufacturers are reassessing the equipment and systems used during routine cleaning.
This has led to growing interest in modern and environmentally friendly food industry cleaning systems that can deliver effective results without compromising performance. Many facilities begin by exploring the latest commercial pressure washers for the food industry and integrated food & beverage washing systems designed for demanding washdown environments.

Electric hot pressure washing technology has developed significantly in recent years, particularly as manufacturers look for alternatives to traditional diesel-heated cleaning equipment.
MAC International began developing electrically heated pressure washers in 2019 after identifying a gap in the market for high-performance systems capable of delivering hot water cleaning without relying on diesel.
Since then, electric cleaning technology has continued to evolve. One example is MAC on demand heating system powered by MAC 21Tech, a system capable of delivering 24 kW of heating power from a standard 32 Amp, 400 V power supply, producing temperatures of up to 80°C.
Advances such as these have demonstrated that electrically heated pressure washers can now deliver the performance required for demanding industrial environments, including food production facilities where reliable hot water cleaning is essential.

The Zero Emission range includes a line up of several core products including:
Across the range, systems can be configured with digital thermostat control, timed total-stop systems, high-temperature pumps and low-revving motors, alongside food-grade stainless steel construction options for hygiene-critical environments.
Cleaning equipment used within food production facilities must meet strict hygiene requirements while also withstanding demanding washdown conditions.
Electrically heated pressure washers provide powerful, high-temperature cleaning without some of the operational considerations associated with diesel-heated systems. As the machines operate without diesel, they remove the need for fuel storage and reduce concerns around fumes extraction or ventilation inside production areas.
As a result, these machines can be installed directly within production environments, supporting routine washdown procedures that are essential for maintaining hygiene standards.
For businesses reviewing their cleaning operations, modern food industry cleaning systems are increasingly being considered as part of wider sustainability and efficiency improvements.

Electrically heated pressure washers can offer several operational advantages for food manufacturing environments, including:
As sustainability targets become more important across the sector, these factors are increasingly influencing how businesses review their cleaning equipment.
Many companies within the food and beverage sector are now working toward long-term environmental targets, including commitments to reduce operational emissions over the coming years.
Cleaning and sanitation equipment plays an important role in this process, particularly in facilities where washdown procedures take place daily.
MAC International is certified to ISO 14001:2015 environmental management standards, reflecting a wider commitment to responsible manufacturing and environmental management.
As electric heating technology continues to improve, electrically heated pressure washing systems are expected to play an increasingly important role in helping food manufacturers balance hygiene, efficiency and sustainability.

As sustainability continues to shape the future of food manufacturing, efficient and environmentally responsible cleaning systems are becoming increasingly important. Through ongoing innovation and development, MAC International continues to play a role in shaping the future of industrial cleaning technology, helping food manufacturers explore solutions that support both high hygiene standards and long-term sustainability goals.
As more businesses embrace sustainability, finding eco-friendly solutions such as electrically heated pressure washers without sacrificing performance has become crucial.
The MAC Zero Emission Electrically Heated Pressure Washer range, developed by MAC International, offers a powerful and environmentally responsible alternative to traditional diesel-heated washers.
Since its launch in 2019, when MAC International identified a gap in the market for high-performance, electrically heated pressure washers, the MAC Zero Emission range has grown rapidly.
Starting with a few core models, it has now expanded to include the MAC Plantmaster Electric, MAC Revolution Electric, and MAC Elektra ranges – with even more advanced machines and specifications continually being developed to meet the evolving demands of industrial and commercial cleaning.

In this blog, we explore six key reasons why switching to an electric, zero-emission pressure washer is a smart choice for your business – and the planet
Cutting operational costs is a priority for any business. By switching to an electrically heated pressure washer, you can reduce running costs by up to 50% compared to diesel-heated machines.
With no need to purchase costly diesel and far fewer maintenance expenses, your business can enjoy significant savings.
We also offer a free fuel-saving analysis calculator to show you exactly how much you can save.
Eliminate the hassle of buying, storing, and handling diesel fuel altogether.
With a MAC Zero Emission washer, there’s no risk of fuel contamination or boiler faults, and you avoid the health and safety risks associated with diesel fumes.
Simplify your operations while reducing downtime and costly repairs.

Many businesses worry that going green means sacrificing performance. Although, with the MAC Zero Emission range, that’s simply not true.
Enjoy industry-leading performance with:
These machines deliver deep, powerful cleaning – perfect for tough industrial applications.
Environmental impact is a growing concern for customers and regulatory bodies alike.
By choosing an electrically heated pressure washer, you ensure zero carbon emissions and no diesel fumes, helping you meet sustainability targets and improve your green credentials.

Tell us a bit about the history of MAC?
Darlington-based MAC International, a manufacturer of industrial and commercial cleaning equipment and machines, was established in 1999 by myself. My father, Jim Ruck, had already been in the pressure washer industry prior having set up Ruck Engineering 40 years ago.
It all started with the MAC Avant, which continues to be one of its most popular machines and is one of the country’s most recognisable pressure washers.
As the UK’s largest independent manufacturer of bespoke static pressure washers, we produce all of our machines at our North East headquarters, and have invested heavily in the research and development of our MAC Zero Emission hot pressure washer range following changes in eco legislation.
We subsequently launched our Zero Emission range in 2019. Since then, we have remained ahead of the curve and experienced a 315% increase in sales in our eco range up to 2023.
